“Welcome! Welcome!” Leslie greeted them in the circle driveway of the house they pulled up to hours later.

“Leslie!” Sabine jumped from the SUV and hugged the tall black man. She tried to squeeze his muscles with her hug but knew she didn’t make a dent. “I didn’t know you’d be here!”

“Well, it is my house,” he explained with a soft laugh. He curled an arm around her shoulders and steered her towards the door. “And when you go to New York, you’ll get to stay with Max.”

“If I go to New York,” she corrected.

He hugged her to his side. “I know what I said.” He let her go in the entryway of a beautiful one level home.

Darius examined the security system and Dallas stalked through the house like a silent predator. Leslie didn’t seem to mind. Or maybe he didn’t even notice things like that anymore.

“We do have one small problem,” Leslie said when Dave had joined them, setting his bag down in the entry. “I’m storing some equipment for a client and it’s taking up two of my spare rooms. And with your security team here as well, you and Sabine will have to share a room. Hope that’s okay.” Leslie turned without waiting to find out if it was okay or not and led them down the hall.

Sabine shot a glance at Dave who seemed unconcerned.

But all she could hear was Curtis’s insistent voice telling her that this was unacceptable.

She was going to be fired from the entourage on her first mission out.

Was that a thing?

Was she mixing her metaphors?

She didn’t know, she’d never watched the show.

She should have watched the show! Maybe it would have prepared her.

She jogged to catch up with Dave and Leslie who were discussing dinner plans.

“Maybe I should stay at a hotel or something. I have some points on this app and I think if I stay one more night, I get another night for free.”

Both men stopped walking and turned to face her.

Leslie regarded her with what looked like barely tethered amusement.

“No, babe.” Dave took her by the elbow and continued walking. “You’re staying with me.”

Ack!

They weren’t listening.

She’d signed so many documents!

It wasn’t like they were back at the loft. This was a big deal with big deal consequences. He was essentially working, and she was supposed to be the companion that made him look good for the media.

Curtis and Gloria had both told her that Dave’s reputation was on the line and if Sabine did anything to violate all the things she’s signed, she was a walking dead woman.

The door was open at the end of the hall and Dave continued inside while Leslie stopped at the door.

Sabine turned in a circle.

One bed. And a small couch. More like a settee.

“Do you have an air mattress?” she asked Leslie hopefully.

He pressed his lips together and shook his head once. “Nope.”

“Sabine,” Dave said, exasperated. “It’s a California King. There’ll be three feet between us. I don’t sleep much anyway. The bed is basically yours.
